Animation Addons 4.3Updated

Demo variations

Six ways to use the Post Pagination.

Ideas you can build today with the Post Pagination and native Elementor 4 elements. Cards marked Pro add an Animation Addons Pro extension or element; the rest work on the free plugin.

01Magazines and editorial blogs

Magazine article with hover previews

Two outlined buttons under the article; hovering "Next Post" shows the next article's image, category, headline, date and author.

Built with
Constrain To Categories; Enable Hover Preview on; Thumbnail, Category, Title, Date and Author kept in the Hover Preview Card, Excerpt deleted.
Motion
Built-in card fade (off under reduced motion).
02Recipe and lifestyle blogs with long posts

Recipe blog sticky bar

After 600px of scrolling, a white bar with "Previous recipe" and "Next recipe" slides up and stays while the reader cooks.

Built with
Display Mode Sticky Bottom Bar, Reveal After Scrolling (px) 600; Prev Label and Next Label edited; Constrain To Categories so desserts lead to desserts.
Motion
Built-in slide-up reveal.
03Course and tutorial sites where lessons must be read in sequence

Course lessons in a set order

"Previous lesson" and "Next lesson" follow the lesson order, not the publish date. Lesson 1 shows only Next.

Built with
Order By Menu Order / Manual Sequence, Order Ascending (Next = forward); lesson numbers set in each page's Page Attributes; the missing button hides itself at each end.
Motion
None.
04Studios and photographers

Portfolio case studies with side arrows

Round arrows float at the screen edges once the visitor scrolls past the cover; the last project leads back to the first.

Built with
Display Mode Floating Navigation (Side Arrows), Reveal After Scrolling (px) 300, Loop Around on; labels deleted so only the arrows remain; Keyboard Arrow Navigation and Mobile Swipe Gestures on.
Motion
Built-in side-slide reveal; magnetic arrow hover with Cursor Hover.
Needs Pro
Cursor Hover (Pro extension). The navigation itself is free.
05Shops where shoppers browse one product after another

WooCommerce product to product

Small "Previous product" and "Next product" links above the photo, kept inside the product category, with a hover card showing image and name.

Built with
Post Pagination on a single Product template; Constrain To Product categories; Posts Filter Mode Exclude with gift cards added to Exclude Posts; Hover Preview Card reduced to Thumbnail and Title.
Motion
None.
Needs Pro
Only if the template also uses the WooCommerce Product Price or Add to Cart elements.
06Podcasts and video series that store an episode number in a custom field

Podcast episodes by episode number

"Episode 47" left and "Episode 49" right, ordered by number even when episodes went live out of order.

Built with
Order By Custom Field, Custom Field Key episode_number, Custom Field Type Number; Hover Preview Card with Title and Excerpt, Length (words) 15.
Motion
None.
Features

What you get with the Post Pagination.

Every option below is a real control in the Post Pagination panel or part of how the element renders. Nothing here needs custom code.

Stay inside a topic

Constrain To limits navigation to posts that share the current post's terms in the taxonomy you pick: categories, tags, product categories or any public custom taxonomy. If a post has no terms there, navigation falls back to all posts instead of breaking. Terms Filter Mode then skips terms (for example "Sponsored") or adds extra ones, and the term picker lists your post categories.

Hand-pick the sequence, in your order

Posts Filter Mode excludes specific posts or includes only a chosen list, for example a five-part series. Ties in Order By break by post ID, so the sequence never shuffles between page loads.

A preview card you build yourself

The Hover Preview Card is a real element tree. Keep, delete, reorder and style Thumbnail, Category, Title, Date, Author and Excerpt; the Excerpt piece has its own Length (words). The card appears on hover and on keyboard focus with a mouse; touch screens skip it so a tap goes straight to the post.

Three ways to sit on the page

Inline (Normal Flow) sits where you drop it. Sticky Bottom Bar and Floating Navigation (Side Arrows) appear after Reveal After Scrolling (px) (300 by default) and stay on screen.

Keyboard, swipe and faster clicks

Keyboard Arrow Navigation and Mobile Swipe Gestures are off by default; Prefetch On Hover is on, so the next page starts loading before the click.

Rules for the ends of the sequence

Each button hides itself when there is nothing to link to. Four switches can hide the whole navigation instead: Hide If No Previous Post, Hide If No Next Post, Hide If First Post and Hide If Last Post. The first and last switches still work with Loop Around on.

Built on the atomic base

How Post Pagination is built (atomic structure)

Why it mattersSwap the arrow for your own SVG, rename "Next Post", or delete the date from the card. Every piece has its own Style panel.

FAQ

Questions about the Post Pagination

How do I add next and previous post buttons in Elementor without Elementor Pro?

Install the free Animation Addons for Elementor plugin and drag the Post Pagination element from the AAE Post category into your single-post template. Post Pagination adds Previous Post and Next Post buttons that link to the adjacent posts. It runs on Elementor Free with the Atomic Editor on, and needs no Elementor Pro theme builder licence.

How do I keep next and previous post links in the same category?

In the Animation Addons Post Pagination element, set Constrain To to Categories, or to tags, product categories or any public custom taxonomy. Navigation then moves only between posts that share the current post's terms. The Include and Exclude Terms picker lists post categories, so use Exclude Posts to skip individual products or entries in other taxonomies.

Is Post Pagination the same as Loop Grid pagination?

No. Animation Addons Post Pagination links one single post to the next or previous single post. Loop Grid pagination pages through a list of posts with page numbers or Load More. Use Post Pagination on single templates and Loop Grid pagination on blog and archive pages.

Does Post Pagination slow down single posts?

Barely. Animation Addons Post Pagination loads one small script and stylesheet, and caches each post sequence, refreshing it when you publish, edit or delete a post. Prefetch On Hover, on by default, starts loading the target page when a visitor hovers or touches a button. Turn it off if you prefer no prefetching.

Is Post Pagination good for SEO and accessibility?

Yes. Post Pagination outputs real <a href> links, so search engines can follow the path between posts and the buttons work with JavaScript off. Each link is named with its target post's title for screen readers. A missing previous or next link is marked disabled and skipped by the Tab key, and the hover card's transition respects reduced-motion settings.

Does Post Pagination work on mobile and WooCommerce products?

Yes. Post Pagination uses the current item's post type, so on a single Product template it moves between products, and Constrain To can use product categories. On phones, hover cards are skipped and Mobile Swipe Gestures can move to the next or previous post on a clear horizontal swipe without blocking normal scrolling.
