Features

What you get with the Post Excerpt.

Every option below is a real control in the Post Excerpt panel or part of how the element renders. Nothing here needs custom code.

Three ways to limit length

Word Count for a natural cut, Character Count when space is tight, Line Clamp (CSS) to fix the number of visible lines. None shows the full excerpt.

Even cards with zero setup

The default 3-line clamp lines up grid cards immediately, and it looks the same in the editor and on the live site.

Cuts that read like writing

Character Count steps back to the last space when a cut would land mid-word, and drops a trailing comma or colon before the Ending.

The number you type is the number you get

Word and character limits trim the handwritten excerpt, or the full post text when there is none, so a limit of 80 words really shows 80, not WordPress's 55.

Readable text from any post

When there is no handwritten excerpt, blocks, shortcodes and tags are removed so only plain sentences remain.

The right tag for your card

HTML Tag outputs the summary as p, div or span.

Built on the atomic base

How the Post Excerpt widget is built (atomic structure)

Why it mattersThe summary is plain text in one element, so a single Class controls its look in every grid, slider and template, and the margin is reset to zero so it sits exactly where you place it in a card.

FAQ

Questions about the Post Excerpt

How do I limit the excerpt length in Elementor?

Add the Animation Addons Post Excerpt element and open Excerpt Settings. Set Limit By to Word Count, Character Count or Line Clamp (CSS), then type the Limit. Word and character trims add your chosen Ending, such as an ellipsis. The element is free and works on Elementor Free with the Atomic Editor on.

Should I use word count or line clamp for blog cards?

Use line clamp for grids. Animation Addons Post Excerpt's Line Clamp (CSS) shows exactly the number of lines you set on every screen size, so cards line up on mobile and desktop. Word Count gives a natural sentence-like cut but varies in line count as column widths change.

Is clamped excerpt text still read by Google and screen readers?

Yes, with line clamp. Animation Addons Post Excerpt's Line Clamp (CSS) only hides overflow visually; the full excerpt stays in the HTML, so search engines and screen readers get the whole summary. Word and character limits remove the extra text from the page, so only the trimmed version is indexed and read aloud.

Why do my blog cards have different heights?

Different excerpt lengths are the usual cause. The Animation Addons Post Excerpt element uses a three-line CSS clamp by default, so each card shows the same number of lines. Pair it with the Post Title's own line clamp and the card bottoms align without fixed heights.

Does the Post Excerpt widget use the manual excerpt?

Yes. When the author filled in WordPress's Excerpt field, Animation Addons Post Excerpt shows that text. When it is empty, the element builds a summary from the post content, removing blocks, shortcodes and HTML so only readable sentences appear. Password-protected posts show WordPress's own protected-post message instead.

Why can't I find Post Excerpt in the Elementor panel?

Animation Addons Post Excerpt is an Atomic Element, so it appears under AAE Post only when Elementor's Atomic Editor (V4 elements) is switched on. Sites first installed on Elementor 4.0 or later have it on by default; upgraded sites switch it on in Elementor's settings. Check the widget is enabled in the Animation Addons dashboard too.

Can I add "Read more" after the excerpt?

Animation Addons Post Excerpt's Ending field adds any text after a word or character trim, such as "…" or " [more]". The excerpt itself is plain text, so for a clickable link place a Button or a linked Post Title in the card beside it.
