Click the button, then press Escape

In Button, turn on Active Spinner and leave the Text empty. In the Style tab, set the button Width & Height to 180 px.

The reel page of a production company. A square lime button sits between two huge words, PLAY and REEL, and sends out a soft ripple every 3 seconds. Click it and the reel opens in the popup.

In Button, turn on Active Ripple and pick a Ripple Color. In the Style tab, set Border Radius to 0 and Width & Height to 60 px.

Video lightbox on click

The video opens in a lightbox over the page, so visitors keep their place and close it to carry on reading.

YouTube, Vimeo or self hosted

Paste the address in Video Link. A YouTube link gives an Elementor YouTube video popup, a Vimeo link an Elementor Vimeo popup, and an MP4 file an Elementor MP4 video popup.

Button, icon and text

In the Button section set the Text, choose an Icon and adjust Icon Spacing. Alignment places the Elementor video popup button left, center or right. It is an Elementor video play button that you style yourself.

Active Ripple

Turn on Active Ripple for two pulsing rings around the button, and set their colour with Ripple Color. It makes an Elementor video popup ripple button.

Active Spinner

Turn on Active Spinner to fill a round button with an image that turns slowly while the play icon stays still.

Full button styling

The Style tab sets Typography, Width & Height, Border Type, Border Radius, Box Shadow, Text Color and Background Type. Put the button on a card to get an Elementor video popup on an image.

Scale reveal popup

The popup scales in over 0.8 seconds on a dark overlay. A round close button sits at the corner of the player and turns when you hover it.

Made for every screen

The player is 900 x 520 px on desktop and gets shorter on tablets and phones, so the video fits the screen. Entrance effects from the Animation tab also need Pro. An Elementor showreel popup works the same way on every device.

Step by step

How to add a video popup in Elementor

Five steps. The bold names are the labels in the Elementor panel.

  1. Install Animation Addons Pro, then turn on Video Popup in Animation Addons → Widgets, under Video.

  2. In Elementor, search the panel for Video Popup and drag it into a container.

  3. In Content under Video, paste your YouTube, Vimeo or MP4 address in Video Link.

  4. Under Button, set the Text and Icon, then switch on Active Ripple or Active Spinner if you want a moving button.

  5. In the Style tab, set Width & Height, Background Type and Border Radius, then preview the page and click the button.

Questions about Video Popup

How do I open a video in a popup in Elementor?

Add the Video Popup widget from Animation Addons Pro, paste your video address in Video Link and publish. Visitors click the play button and the video opens in a popup over the page.

Can I use YouTube, Vimeo or MP4 files?

Yes, according to the Animation Addons docs. Paste the address in Video Link. The original demo page uses a YouTube link and an MP4 file.

What does Active Ripple do?

It adds two rings that pulse out from the button every few seconds, which draws the eye to it. Ripple Color sets the colour of the rings.

What does Active Spinner do?

It fills a round button with an image that turns slowly. The play icon stays still on top. The docs describe it as a spinner, and on the demo page it is a turning image.

Can I change the size of the button?

Yes. Width & Height in the Style tab set the button size. The demos use 180 px, 85 px and 60 px. Border Radius makes it round or square.

How do visitors close the popup?

With the round close button at the corner of the player. Clicking the dark area around the video closes it too, and in this page's demos Escape does as well.

Can the play button sit on an image?

Yes. Place the Video Popup widget over a photo in a container and give the button a size and colour. That is an Elementor video popup on image, as in the card demo above.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The popup player is 900 x 520 px on desktop and gets shorter on tablets and phones so the video stays on screen.

Do I need Elementor Pro?
