How to add an author box in Elementor

Five steps, no code. The bold names are the labels in the Elementor panel.

  1. Install and activate Animation Addons for Elementor from WordPress.org, and turn on Author Box under Widgets.

  2. Open your single post template or page in Elementor, search the panel for Author Box and drag it in. This is the quickest Elementor author box single post template.

  3. Pick a Source: Current Author for posts, or Custom to set the Profile Picture, Name and Biography yourself.

  4. Choose the Layout and Alignment, and turn on the Archive Button, Author Meta, Contact Info or Social Profile.

  5. Style the image, text and button in the Style tab, check it on mobile and publish.

How do I add an author box in Elementor?

Drag the free Author Box widget from Animation Addons into your single post template and set Source to Current Author. It then shows the photo, name and bio of whoever wrote each post, with no extra setup per post.

Is there a free Elementor author box?

Yes. The Author Box is an Elementor author box free of charge. It is in the Animation Addons plugin on WordPress.org and works with Elementor Free.

Can I get an Elementor author box without Pro?

Yes. Elementor Pro has its own Author Box as a theme element, but this widget works with Elementor Free, so you can build the box without Elementor Pro.

Can I show a custom author instead?

Yes. Set Source to Custom and choose the Profile Picture, Name, Link, Biography and Archive Button link yourself. This suits guest writers and landing pages.

Where does the author bio come from?

With Current Author, the Biography is the description saved in the author's WordPress user profile. With Custom, you type it into the widget.

Can I add a link to all posts by the author?

Yes. Turn on Archive Button and set the Archive Text, for example All Posts. It links to the author's post archive, or to your own link with Custom.

Can it show social links and contact details?

Yes, with Current Author. Contact Info shows the author's email and phone, and Social Profile shows their social icons with follower counts, each read from the author's user profile.

Can I put the photo on the left or on top?

Yes. Layout places the image left, above or right of the text, and Alignment sets the text to the left, centre or right.

Does it show post and comment counts?

Yes. With Current Author, turn on Author Meta to show how many articles and comments the author has.

Does it work in Elementor 4?

Yes. It is a classic widget, so Elementor 4 lists it with the legacy widgets and it keeps working next to atomic elements.
